Hello, my name is Andres Rosas.  Over the past several summers, I have had the opportunity to spend time in Paipa, Colombia, where my grandfather grew up. What began as an opportunity to learn more about my family’s heritage while improving my Spanish became something much more meaningful when I discovered The Honey Trail, known as El Camino de la Miel.

During my time in Paipa, I came to realize that The Honey Trail is not simply a trail through the mountains. It is a living connection between communities, generations, traditions, and the history of Paipa.  The more I learned, the more I wanted to become involved—not by replacing the work that is already being done, but by finding ways that I could contribute to it.

This past summer, I had the opportunity to meet with members of the community, project leaders, restaurant owners and hotel operators to gain their perspectives and learn more about the trail and what it means to the people of Paipa.  I was also able to walk portions of the trail, meet arrieros, speak with people along the route, and experience firsthand some of the Colombian culture and traditions connected to it.

That experience gave me a much deeper appreciation for what the Paipa City Council and the surrounding communities are working to preserve. It also gave me ideas about how I can help.  To support the mission of increasing local and regional recognition of The Honey Trail, I have created this website to Document, Share, and Connect.

·         Document the stories, perspectives, traditions, people, and landscapes that make the Camino de la Miel special.

·         Share those stories through digital media to create awareness and reach people beyond Paipa.

·         Connect local businesses and communities with visitors, organizations, resources, and new opportunities.

My goal is to create a central place where people can discover The Honey Trail, learn its story, and find ways to experience it responsibly.

Thank you.
